Every website also needs web hosting. Web hosting allows your website to be seen on the internet.
3. Website builder
Unless you want to code your website from scratch, you will need a website builder that can code for you.
Domain name, web hosting, & a website builder??? What are those? And how would I get them? Don’t worry about it. Just keep following along and we’ll show you precisely what to do. It’s one of those things that seem difficult until you actually do it. For now, just keep following along!
Step 1: Choosing a Domain Name
The first step to making a website is to choose an appropriate domain name. A domain name is like an address to your website. It gives your website an official name that other people can use to visit your website. For example, howtogetonline.org is the domain name for this website. It is a good idea to think of a good domain name for your website. Here’s a few helpful tips:
While selecting a domain name, keep the following in mind:
- A domain name is unique and will need to be registered so that only you can use it.
- Domain names can have many different extensions, but .com, .net, or .org, are usually the best.
- Unfortunately, many domain names are already taken, so you may have to think of a different name that has not been registered yet.
- Try to pick a domain name that is simple & easy to remember.
- It’s often a good idea to pick a domain name that clearly explains what your website is about. For ex, howtogetonline.org
Start thinking of ideas for your domain name. Once you have chosen a name, you will need to register it. You can usually register a domain name for free through your web hosting provider. We’ll show you how to do this in the next step.
Step 2: Hosting Your Website
In order to make your website visible on the internet, you will need to get web hosting. You get web hosting from a web host. Unfortunately, web hosting is a service that you must pay for. Its the only thing you will need to pay for to have a website. Don’t worry though. Web hosting is not very expensive. It usually costs less than $5 per month, which comes to $60 per year. A small but necessary price to own a website. One of the best web hosting services for building your own website is www.webhostinghub.com. Step 3: Make Your Own Website with a Website Builder
At long last! We’ve gotten to the final step. This is highlight of our guide where you can now start to make your own website. Unfortunately it is also going to be the most difficult part. But don’t panic. Instead of writing a tedious guide on building a website, we’re going to show you in a video tutorial. Just follow along and you can’t go wrong. Before you start, make sure you’ve completed steps 1 and 2 first.
If you’ve followed along, you should now have your own website! Of course, this is just the beginning. From this guide, you’ve basically learned how to get a domain name & web hosting account. You’ve also learned how to install a website builder (WordPress) onto your web hosting account. If you go to your domain name (bobspizza.org in our example), you will see you actually have a website. However, this website is basically empty and not ready to show to your visitors. You will need to log into your website builder (WordPress) to edit your website. You can do this by going to your administrative URL which is always your “domain name” + “/wp-admin”. For example, bobspizza.org/wp-admin would be the administrative url in this tutorial. Once you’ve logged in, you can edit/delete your existing pages, add new pages, and do anything else you might need. WordPress is a powerful website builder and has many options. Unfortunately, it can be very confusing for a beginner. The best thing you can do is to just dive in and start playing around. There are also many great video tutorials online on learning WordPress.
